MINUTES – MEMBERSHIP MEETING – March 18, 2019

Attendance: Georgann Blair, Nancy Franks, Nancy Gavin, Christina Holtier, Renee Krohn, Ludina Mills, Betty Lou Palmer; Pat Pitts, Pauline Rickert, Karen Sigsworth, Garalynn Tomas, and Vee Valega.  Speakers:  Anne Jesse and Megan Rowe.

Betty Lou Palmer, president, brought our meeting to order. She welcomed all of us.

Program: Anne Jesse, president, and Megan Rowe, former president, from Elyria Arts Council came to speak to us about their Arts Council.  We went there for one of our meetings two years ago. There are many beautiful items you can view and purchase when you go there. They have oil painting classes, a Potters Guild, and a Kids Art Drop In.  The Kids are given an idea for a project, materials, and there are no rules about how to create your artwork. They have Recycle Mosaic with many recycle items.  Since jewelry making supplies were donated, they have a ladies jewelry-making night when they charge a reasonable amount for materials and instruction and EAC earns money for their Arts Council.  They receive donations from the community and Nordson.

Minutes – Georgann moved to approve the minutes from our February meeting as received.

Financial Report – Ludina Mills, treasurer, distributed the report.  Our bank balance is $4,557.68.

Donation – Georgann made a motion that Arts Council donates up to $250 to be given to NR Parks and Recreation for the purpose of Concerts or Movies in the Park.  Renee seconded the motion.  The motion carried.  A request for a donation for the Citizen for the Arts was received.  It is due April 30 and will be determined next month.

Major School Performance – Georgann made a motion that we allot the Bob Cotter program an additional $50 to the $700 already approved to fully fund the program to be held at the Early Childhood Learning Center.

Community Care – We will be putting Easter baskets together or the less fortunate on Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m.  Ludina moved that we donate up to $300 to purchase contents for the Easter baskets.  Georgann seconded the motion.

Election of Officers – The following people are nominated:  President – Betty Lou Palmer, Vice President – Garalynn Tomas, Treasurer – Ludina Mills, Secretary – Mary Beth Bogner, Program – Nancy Franks, and Membership – Nancy Gavin.  They will be installed at our April 15 meeting.

Art Framing for the Senior Art Gallery Award – Georgann reported that she will pick up any two-dimensional artwork from the North Ridgeville High School that is being entered in the contest to be chosen for the Senior Art Gallery.  She will pick up all entries on April 15 and they will be judged by NR Arts Council.

Field Trip to Allen Memorial Art Museum – On Saturday, May 11 we are planning a trip to Oberlin for a guided tour by docents for an hour at 10:30 a.m.  We can arrange carpools for the trip. There is no charge.  After the guided tour, we can look around more at our leisure.  Let Nancy Franks (327-9647) know you are interested.

Olde Towne Hall Theatre – “Beehive” is being presented from April 26 through May 11.  Be thinking of a date that many of us could go together to support them.  Their shows are always outstanding.

Membership/Donation Drive of 2019-2020 – Nancy Gavin reported that Georgann created a Newsletter with information about what Arts Council has been doing recently.   A few copies were passed around for members to see.  Our fiscal year is April through March.  It will be sent to current members, people who have expressed an interest in our organization, and businesses who might want to help us provide an interest in art to the schools and the community.  Thanks for all your help Georgann.  It looks great. Last year’s membership/donation drive brought in $1,501.94.

NRCS Endowment Committee – They will have a fundraiser at the Melt Bar and Grilled in Avon on April 4.  Mary Beth will email each of us a flyer to take with us so that the Endowment Committee will receive a percentage of our meal purchase.

Check out our website, www.ridgevilleartscouncil.wordpress.com. Thank you to our member, Mark Madere of SpectraLight Photography and Design, who created our website and keeps it up to date.

Garalynn moved to close the meeting and Georgann seconded the motion.  Thank you, Nancy Franks, for the delicious refreshments.  They were delicious and we enjoyed visiting with each other.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Gavin
