Monday, May 20, 2019 – MEMBERSHIP MEETING at the North Ridgeville Library at 6:30 p.m.
Our speaker will be Scott Allen from our North Ridgeville Library. He will talk about the art of writing, putting our thoughts down on paper.
MINUTES – North Ridgeville Arts Council Minutes – April 15, 2019
Attendance: Betty Lou Palmer, Veronica Valega, Ludina Mills, Karen Sigsworth, Nancy Gavin, Nancy Franks, Georgann Blair, Pauline Rickert, Pat Pitts, Garalynn Tomas.
Meeting was called to order by President, Betty Palmer.
Minutes were accepted as forwarded to members.
Treasurer’s Report: Ludina Mills, treasurer, distributed the report. Balance on hand is $4,397.86. Report was approved as given. Ludina said that the $250 that we gave to the Parks and Rec Department was divided into two summer programs: Movies in the Park and Summer Concert Series. We will be mentioned on both events as sponsors.
Major School Performance: The Early Childhood Learning Center notified Janet Willoughby that the program by Bob Cotter is booked for the rest of the school year and will not be able to come. They asked if it could be rescheduled for next September instead. We all agreed that we will do it then.
Field Trip: Nancy Franks talked with the Allan Art Museum in Oberlin and planned a group event for Saturday, May 11, 10:30-11:30. We are leaving at 9:30 from the Library as a group or you can drive separately and meet at the Museum at 10:00. A docent will lead us around for a tour. A motion was made to donate $100 to the Allan Memorial Museum. Motion was passed.
Olde Towne Hall Theatre – The play “Bee Hive” is being presented from April 26 – May 11. We are going as a group on Friday, May 3, 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in going, call Betty by Monday, April 29 she can reserve a seat for you.
Scholarship Applications: Ludina reported that she hasn’t received any applications yet. The deadline is May 1
Senior Art Gallery: Georgann reported that North Ridgeville High School didn’t have any entries. The art teacher said that the students weren’t interested. Three North Ridgeville students that attend Elyria Catholic High School submitted art work. The members in attendance voted for the art piece by David Griffin. Georgann will let him know that he was the winner.
Community Care: Betty thanked the volunteers that came to Community Care on April 9 to fill Easter Baskets. 93 baskets were made.
Installation of Officers: Veronica Valega installed the officers for the 2019-2020 year. The following were installed: President – Betty Palmer, Vice President – Garalynn Tomas, Treasurer – Ludina Mills, Programs – Nancy Franks, and Membership – Nancy Gavin. Hales Florist donated the flowers for the installation.
Program: Morgan Chilton, our 2017 Scholarship winner, came to tell about her experiences and education at Baldwin Wallace College. She has a double major in Arts Management and Entrepreneur. She first found an interest in this when she did a research paper on Arts Management while in high school. She has been busy with student organizations, field trips to Columbus and making scenery sets for the theater. When she graduates, she hopes to manage a theater production, fundraising for a production and organize and hire directors and set makers. She was very enthusiastic and enjoys her classes. She was very appreciative for the scholarship she received from us and said that it helped her a lot.
