Monday, July 17 – MEMBERSHIP MEETING at the North Ridgeville Library at 7 p.m.
Program – Georgann Blair will lead us in creating driftwood sculptures. Please bring acrylic paints of assorted colors and brushes. MINUTES MEMBERSHIP MEETING – June 19, 2017
Attendance: Julie Bajda, Georgann Blair, Nancy Bowman, Nancy Franks, Nancy Gavin, Ludina Mills, Betty Lou Palmer; Karen Sigsworth, Margaret Brooks-Terry and Vee Valega. Speaker: Tom Brown
Nancy Franks introduced speaker, Tom Brown.
Program – Our speaker. Tom Brown, executive director of the Lorain Port Authority, spoke to us about many things their office does at Black River Landing. Early in June they had their annual Cabela’s Master Walleye Circuit. They had 251 boats this year with volunteers cleaning fish and donating them to needy families in the area. The annual International Festival is held the last weekend in June. The Lorain Lighthouse is currently celebrating their 100th anniversary. It has been restored. The original lens is now stored in The Lorain Port Authority’s office. When the lighthouse was decommissioned in 1965, the lens ended up in Rochester, NY. Coast Guard regulations prevented it from being installed in our lighthouse. It is currently on display in the Lorain Port Authority office. Tours of the lighthouse are available this summer for $20 each which includes the boat ride. Betty Lou Palmer, president, brought our meeting to order.
Minutes – Nancy Bowman made a motion that we accept the May minutes as received and Margaret Brooks Terry seconded the motion.
Financial Report – Ludina Mills, our treasurer, reported our current bank balance is $4,580.39. She gave copies of the financial statement from May 19 through June 19 to members in attendance. The treasurer’s report was accepted as read. We will pay $30 to the Ohio Citizens for the Arts as we do each year.
Barbara Sutton – Librarian, Storyteller and Arts Council member for many years. Her good friend, Julie Bajda, gave us an update on her. Almost two years ago she had a stroke and she has been in a rehab most of the time since then. Her sister visits her most days and Julie visits her weekly. She is paralyzed on her right side and has a specialized wheelchair. Barb asked Julie to say “hi” to all of us. We miss her very much and wish her the very best. You are in our prayers, Barb.
North Ridgeville City Schools Endowment Fund – Georgann Blair reported that she completed the gift baskets she created for us from the money we donated. They are used at two different events as fundraisers. They included gift cards, coffee, napkins, chocolate, etc. Thanks, Georgann.
North Ridgeville Parks and Recreation Department – Arts Council donated $250 for Movies in the Park held on Fridays during the summer at dusk at South Central Park. It is a family event. Bring a picnic dinner if you wish and join your friends. They will be held June 30, July 14 and July 28 and August 4 and 25. For movie updates visit the Rainout Line tab on the Parks & Rec website at nridgeville.org/parksandrec.
North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – The Arts and Crafts Fair will be held on the weekend of August 11-13, 2017 in the air-conditioned North Ridgeville Senior Center. We currently have 10 people who have paid for a contract. Mark your calendars.
