Betty Lou Palmer, president, brought our meeting to order.
At the November meeting under the direction of the Lake Ridge Academy art teacher, some of the ladies carved gourds and then brought their gourds for all to see tonight. They looked really good.
Program – Nancy Franks introduced Allison Borstad, wife of Arik Borstad who is the minister of North Ridgeville United Church of Christ. Allison has a master’s degree in sociology. She is presenting the Art of Meditation and Relaxation. She talked about Mindfulness, as a way of life, focuses on cultivating a wholesome mind that will produce thoughts that contribute to your well-being—and, in turn, the well-being of the whole world. Allison gave us time to center ourselves. She spoke to us in such a way that we could center ourselves and relax. It made us feel so good. Arts and crafts are a good way to relax.
Financial Report – Ludina Mills, our treasurer, reported our current bank balance is $4,101.40. She gave copies of the financial statement of the period from November 21 to January 16 to members.
December Christmas Dinner – On Monday, December 19 we met in the North Ridgeville Library for a delicious dinner catered by Sterk’s Catering. After our dinner we were entertained by Music Bingo Ohio. It was a lot of fun hearing many old songs and winning small prizes as we won bingo. Then we had an auction led by Bob Liston and Jerry Toich. Everyone brought wrapped gifts which we bid on and the proceeds of $467 went to North Ridgeville Community Care.
Future Meetings – On Monday, February 20th, Joel Keller, The Doc of Rock, will present the history of music in this area. On Monday, March 20th, David Simmer will speak to the history of Stained Glass Windows. David is a professor at Lorain County Community College in the Arts and Humanities Department.
North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – The Corn Fest will be held on the weekend of August 11- 13, 2017 in the air-conditioned, North Ridgeville Senior Center. We currently have three people who have paid. Mark your calendars.
We passed out a flier to see the shows being presented at the Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College. The North Ridgeville Library is presenting a Sunday Series from now through March on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. There is a wide range of programs. Check out the schedule and take advantage of these free programs. You can obtain a list at the library, or online at LorainPublicLibrary.org
A motion to close the meeting was made by Nancy Bowman and seconded by Ludina Mills.
Thank you, Betty Lou Palmer, for the delicious refreshments. We enjoyed the goodies and the visiting.
