Betty Lou Palmer, president, brought our meeting to order. Betty and Garalynn Thomas presented our $1500 Artistic Endeavor Scholarship to Taylor Mangan at the senior breakfast. Congratulations, Taylor! She will be attending Bowling Green University and majoring in Interior Design/Architecture. The Senior Art Gallery Award art work was shown which was created by Brittany Ozanich.
Financial Report – Ludina Mills, our treasurer, reported our current bank balance is $4,466.76. She gave copies of the financial statement of the period from May 16 to June 20 to members.
North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – This will be held on the weekend of August 12-14 in the air conditioned North Ridgeville Senior Center. We currently have 10 paid contracts. The David Bogner Family Funeral Home will again be purchasing the raffle tickets. It was suggested that we obtain 600 tickets since we sold out of 500. Anyone wishing to donate a prize for our Chinese Raffle would be appreciated. Nancy Gavin will again be in charge of the bake sale. Baked goods are, also, needed. We decided to order Wendy’s coupons. These will sell for $1 and with every purchase you receive a small Wendy’s frosty. They are good for a year.
Major School Performance – Cindy Neprestek, art teacher at Wilcox, thanked us for our donation toward the programs at Wilcox Elementary School for the 4th and 5th grade classes. Robin Pease, storyteller, did a wonderful performance and Jim Gill was delightful as a cartoonist. Each year we choose a different North Ridgeville school for us to pay for an artistic presentation.
July Membership Meeting – On Monday, July 18 our monthly meeting will be at the Elyria Art Works, Community Art Center and Gallery, 336 Broad Street, Elyria, Ohio. Plan to meet in the North Ridgeville Library parking lot at the end near Bainbridge Road at 6:25 p.m. to carpool to the Elyria Arts Works for a tour of their facility. Elyria Arts Council is opening their location so that we may see what they have created. It is a place for artists to work on their craft as well as teach others about art. They work with many mediums. Many local artisans’ works are for sale. We will stop on the way back to North Ridgeville to have a brief meeting. The place is to be determined.
Future Meetings – There is no meeting in August. In September a person from the North Ridgeville Garden Club will present the Art of Garden Design. October will have a hands-on art experience led by our own Georgann Blair. In November there will be a program about the Art of Gourd Carving. Our December Christmas dinner will be held on the usual 3rd Monday, December 19 with entertainment.
City of North Ridgeville’s Memorial Tree in Memory of Lorrie Ternes – Thank you, Nancy Franks, for obtaining all the information for the planting of this tree. Nancy Bowman moved and Georgann seconded the motion that we have the North Ridgeville Parks & Recreation Department plant an Autumn Brilliance Service Berry tree in one of its parks. A 3” x 5” plaque will read “In memory of Lorrie Ternes of NR Arts Council 2015”. The cost is $300. They will care for the tree. The motion carried.
Since our fiscal year is from April through May, our membership dues are due at this time. If you would like to use our website, a membership card can be obtained at the above address. It can be used for donations, as well. It can be mailed to our P. O. Box 39283 or brought to our next meeting. Thank you.
Thank you, Nancy Franks, for the unique refreshments. We created our own dessert consisting of many tasty items including pudding, yogurt, various fresh fruits and toppings. What a fun idea! Each of us made our own artistic design and it tasted good, also.
