MEMBERSHIP MEETING – September 21, 2015
Attendance: Georgann Blair, Nancy Bowman, Nancy Franks, Nancy Gavin, Bev Neuman, Glenda Newell, Betty Lou Palmer; Jane Pfaff, Karen Sigsworth, Margaret Truman, Vee Valega and Alan and Janet Willoughby. Guest Speaker: Charlotte Yetman
Betty Lou Palmer, president, opened our meeting and introduced our speaker.
Program: Charlotte Yetman is a professor in the theater department at Baldwin Wallace University and costume designer for the Great Lakes Theater Festival. She brought costumes from the BW production of Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl, which was set in the underworld. She talked about many experiences with costumes from Baldwin Wallace and Great Lakes Festival productions. For a quick change she uses magnets on the back of a dress to remove it quickly while another dress is underneath. She works closely with the actors. Since she has been designing for several years, she has learned to design on the computer. This was very informative and entertaining.
Finance Report – Vee Valega, our treasurer, reported our current bank balance is $5,472.00. We have to pay $425 for insurance to cover us for the 3 days. The bake sale and raffle tickets combined brought in $1,044.30.
North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – All raffle tickets were sold. Lonnie Hart’s granddaughter worked at Sears and was able to arrange a donation of a KitchenAid stand mixer which was very popular. Thank you for the many donations of raffle prizes and purchasing tickets. We, also, thank the many people who donated baked goods and purchased some. Wendy coupons were very popular, too.
Artistic Endeavor Award Scholarship – Emily Gommel, our recipient for our Artistic Endeavor Award Scholarship of $1500, has begun college and sent us a nice thank you note.
Annual Christmas Party – We decided to change the date of our Christmas party from our regular meeting date of December 21 to Thursday, December 17 at 6 p.m. Save the date. We will charge $10 per meal and invite the North Ridgeville Historical Society again. Margaret Truman made a motion to plan our Christmas party for Thursday, December 17 and Nancy Bowman seconded the motion. The motion carried.
North Ridgeville City Schools Endowment – Georgann Blair reported that this committee is planning a Chili Chase for the North Ridgeville City Schools staff.
North Ridgeville Library – Karen Sigsworth reported that on Saturday, October 3 at 2 p.m. Joel Keller will present “Music in the Movies.” Adults and teens will enjoy a historic look at the use of music in silent films, talkies and commercial movies, including watching scenes from a number of movies. On Thursday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. a speaker from the National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo will come to discuss the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the most famous unsolved mysteries of the Great Lakes.
Major School Performance – Janet Willoughby reported that last year we donated money to Liberty Elementary school for an art program for their school. Janet will check her schedule of schools for which school is to receive the donation this school year. Georgann Blair made a motion that we appropriate up to $800, if needed, for the Major School Performance program. Nancy Bowman seconded the motion and the motion carried. The Center for Arts Inspired Learning, formerly called Young Audiences, is a good source for programs.
Thank you, Nancy Gavin, for the refreshments. Everyone enjoyed the conversation and the goodies.
