MEMBERSHIP MEETING – May 18, 2015
Attendance: Georgann Blair, Betty Day, Nancy Gavin, Ilona Manista, Betty Lou Palmer; Karen Sigsworth, Barb Sutton, Margaret Truman and Vee Valega. Guest Speaker: Carol Klear.
Betty Lou Palmer, president, opened our meeting and introduced our speaker.
Program: Carol Klear speaks about being an author. Carol is author of Legendary Locals and Images of America by Arcadia Publishing both about North Ridgeville. Carol is retired from being an editor of The North Ridgeville Press.
April Minutes – A motion was made to accept the April minutes. The vote was unanimous in favor.
Finance Report – Vee Valega, our new treasurer, gave the report. Our current bank balance is $4,220.37.
North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – Betty Lou Palmer reported that we have received 11 contracts to date for the Arts and Crafts Fair at the Corn Fest on August 7, 8 and 9.
Artistic Endeavor Award Scholarship – Any high school senior living in North Ridgeville who plans to attend college and study in the field of the Arts is eligible for this scholarship. We received six applications. Emily Gommel was chosen by our committee to receive our $1500 scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded on May 29 at the Senior Breakfast. Emily plans to pursue a career in Visual Communication Design. In addition to winning many art awards, she has been very active in outside activities and maintained a 4.4 grade point average. Congratulations, Emily.
North Ridgeville High School Senior Art Gallery Award – Congratulations to Caitlyn Hermansky. The selected artwork will be on display in the Media Center for two years.
North Ridgeville City Schools Endowment – Georgann reported that a golf outing will be held on Thursday, June 11. Tickets cost $80 per person or $30 for the dinner. Proceeds support scholarships and grants. Georgann is putting together another wine basket for the raffle. We donated $60 to cover the cost of tea baskets for the two different events for the Endowment Committee. Anyone is invited to attend.
Betty Palmer asked Barb Sutton to read “Why Wear a Poppy”, Author Unknown to celebrate Memorial Day this weekend. It was very touching and reminded us of what our Veterans did to serve our nation. Thank you to all the veterans.
Barb Sutton showed a video of the Parade the Circle Celebration from 2004 that was created by Barb Sutton and Andre LeBlanc. It is an amazing parade to celebrate the Arts. This year it will be held on Saturday, June 13 at University Circle. Plan to attend. You’ll be happy you did.
North Ridgeville Library – Karen Sigsworth reported that the Art Shows from our North Ridgeville Schools are being held currently in the library.
