Our president, Ilona Manista, opened our meeting and introduced our speaker.

Program – Cheryl Bonner from Stanton Jewelers in Westlake, OH is a certified in Colored Stones and Diamonds. She started as a bench jeweler when she was 17 years old. Cheryl is a master at remanufacturing old gold pieces. Cheryl spoke to us predominantly about charm bracelets. Most charm bracelets are put together by theme, such as travel, music, states, special events, etc. She showed us many charm bracelets and looked at the ones we brought from home.

Minutes from April 20 – Nancy Bowman moved to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as written. Margaret Truman seconded. The motion carried.

Financial Report – Betty Day reported on our finances as of May 18, 2014. Our total bank balance was $4,494.45. A donation of $200 was made to Olde Towne Hall Theatre for their summer kids program. Betty Lou Palmer made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report and Vee Valega seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in favor.

North Ridgeville Corn Fest Arts and Crafts Fair – We have received 10 contracts to date.

High School Art – The cost of framing the North Ridgeville High School winning artwork was $252.86. We made that donation as we do annually.

Artistic Endeavor Award Scholarship – The 2014 winner is Kelly Tomko who was chosen from five entries. Kelly has been accepted at Baldwin Wallace University and plans to major in theater and minor in dance. She hopes to promote the arts by teaching and/or being a counselor or mentor. Opening a performing arts company is her ultimate goal. While maintaining excellent grades through high school, she has achieved many awards through her NRHS band experience and National Honor Society.

Membership – Nancy Gavin reported that 100 letters and membership cards were mailed to individuals and businesses asking for membership dues and/or donations to North Ridgeville Arts Council. Some of us saw the Olde Towne Hall Theatre production of Over the River and Through the Woods. It was excellent. Arts Council supports Olde Towne Hall Theatre, who put on excellent productions.

Art Show – A display of art from students at North Ridgeville Schools of all ages was enjoyed by all after our meeting.

Program for June 16 – TrueNorth has partnered with Lorain County Metro Parks to provide both fine arts and performing arts programming. TrueNorth at the French Creek Nature & Arts Center is located in Sheffield Village on Colorado Avenue. Thank you, Nancy Gavin, for the refreshments which everyone enjoyed as we visited one another.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Gavin
