DATES TO REMEMBER
Monday, February 17 – MEMBERSHIP MEETING at the North Ridgeville Library at 7 p.m.
Love of Lace by Janet Bird of The Lorain County Historical Society
MEMBERSHIP MEETING – January 20, 2014
Attendance: Nancy Bowman, Nancy Gavin, Pastor Tom Joyce, Betty Lou Palmer; Karen Sigsworth, Claudia Snyder, Vee Valega and Janet Willoughby.
Program – Pastor Tom Joyce from Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville spoke about the church’s mission trip to Joplin, Missouri, in 2011. On May 22, 2011 a category 5 tornado hit Joplin. 160 people died and 10 percent of the population of Joplin was homeless. 25,000 to 30,000 animals were displaced. The first year we had 9 volunteers in mission who went in the summer for a week. People who go on these mission trips are forever changed as these trips build a Community of Faith. Many kinds of jobs are done to help the tornado victims.
Nineteen people plan to attend Fields UMC’s mission trip, the fourth in recent years, on June 21- 29 to Moore, Oklahoma, who also had damage from a category 5 tornado. In 2012 they travelled again to Joplin, and last year they went to New Jersey to assist hurricane victims there.
Financial Report – Betty Day was unable to attend, so there was no report.
Membership –Thank you to those who have paid their dues or given a donation. Currently we have received $1945. Membership dues are still $20 per year. If you have not paid your dues for the fiscal year from April 1 to March 31, you may still send a check to our PO Box 39283 or bring it to the meeting.
