Program: Rain Barrels N’ MORE: Ann Gideon of Rain Barrels N’ MORE told us about the fully assembled rain barrels she has available in her store located at 30791 Center Ridge Road in Westlake. Ann told us that we could save hundreds of dollars by collecting and using free, crystal clear, naturally soft, rainwater for all our home and garden needs. The store has really unique items for home and garden and is dedicated to “all things green.”
Minutes: Margaret Truman was not present at the May meeting. The minutes for the May 21 meeting were approved as corrected.
Treasurer’s Report: Betty Day reported that the total bank balance is $5,011.56. There were 5 membership fees received. A retirement gift of $50 was sent to Sean Crum.
Artistic Endeavor Award Scholarship: Our winner for 2012 was Julian Gonzales. His award was presented at the Senior Awards breakfast. Julian plans to attend college further advancing his skills in art and music and combining the two with psychology creating the field of Arts Therapist. He must send a receipt of his payment for registering for school by September 30 in order to receive his scholarship award. If he does not claim his award on time, our second place winner, Monica Stefanek, will receive a scholarship.
Arts and Crafts Fair at North Ridgeville Corn Fest: Betty Lou has received 14 contracts and has 2 waiting to receive payment. She plans to cut it off at 20 so we will have ample room for tables and the showing of our Coloring Contest entries. Betty will order Wendy’s certificates if they are still available. We sell them for $1 each and purchase 100 for $25. They would be the same as we sold last year, when they were very popular. The card entitles bearer to one free Jr. Frosty Dairy Dessert with any purchase on each visit to Wendys. Mary Beth Bogner has tickets for the raffle and will mail them to people on our mailing list.
Correspondence: A note was received from Sean Crum, high school teacher and arts council member, thanking us for all we have done for the schools as well as for his retirement gift. Janet Willoughby reported via email that Sharon Aunchman said that she is very appreciative of our $500 donation to Young Audiences. She has already matched the amount with a donation.
Georgann Blair honored: North Ridgeville art teacher, Georgann Blair, was selected as the 2012 winner of the prestigious Samuel H. Elliott Award for Excellence in Economics Education by Ashland University. She created the R 21 Project five years ago at the high school by which students created and sold art utilizing art knowledge and business principles.
Membership dues and donations: Our fiscal year started in April so donations and dues for the 2012-13 year can be brought to our next meeting or mailed to P.O Box 39283, North Ridgeville. Dues are $20 per year.
