MEMBERSHIP MEETING – January 16, 2012
Attendance: Nancy Bowman, Betty Day, Nancy Gavin, Mark Madere, Dayle Noll, Betty Lou Palmer, Pat Pitts, Karen Sigsworth, Lorrie Ternes, Garalynn Tomas, Margaret Truman and Vee Valega. Guests: Pat and Warren Blakely, Rich Doyle, Renee Walker and Jon Wysochanski from North Ridgeville Press.
Richard Doyle: A Medina native produced a collage-style watercolor containing 33 images of North Ridgeville landmarks. These can be purchased for $20 from our Chamber of Commerce. His presentation for Arts Council was both informative and entertaining. He sees things differently than most people. Rich has also done similar collages of Ohio State University, Medina, Valley City, Wadsworth, etc. He never took art classes beyond Junior High with the exception of some through the Medina County Art League. He is mostly self-taught by watching demonstrations and looking closely at other artist’s work. He is a believer in the legacy aspect, remembering the historic buildings and leaving something for others. In addition, Rich’s other talents include photography, producing videos, and writing poetry and short stories. His work is very inspirational.
Treasurer’s Report: Betty Day reported that the total bank balance is $4,597.76.
PTA Art Reflections: The North Ridgeville PTA Council is again sponsoring the PTA Art Reflections Program. The theme this year is “Diversity means….” Use of this theme is necessary to become a winner. Students, preschool through grade 12, could submit works of art in six areas: visual arts, literature, photography, dance choreography, film/video and musical composition. Judging was completed early in January and 24 entries were entered into the state competition. Nancy Gavin, from Arts Council was one of three judges. The program is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at the North Ridgeville High School at 10 a.m. with the awards ceremony beginning at noon. Plan to attend to see the work that our future artists have created. The PTA Council would like us to have a table at the event. We could have a craft for others to participate or use the table to inform others what we do. Several years ago this was a much larger event with many more entries. We formerly would get 3 judges for each category.
Arts and Crafts Fair at North Ridgeville Corn Fest: Betty Lou is getting the contracts ready for printing for our 2012 event.
Membership dues and donations: We have currently received $1,970. Our fiscal year runs from April through March so we can still accept donations if you forgot. You can bring it to our next meeting or mail to P.O Box 39283, North Ridgeville.
Major School Performance: Each year we select a different elementary or middle school to donate money for them to use for an artistic program in their school. Janet Willoughby is in the process of having Middle School select a program
February 20, 2012 Membership Meeting: Our program for our February meeting will be presented by Dawn Reese from Dolls and Minis in Wellington, Ohio. Dawn will be talking about miniature dolls, houses, etc. They carry many kinds of miniatures. Watch our website for more information about our program. Check it out at www.ridgevilleartscouncil.wordpress.com for more information.
Christmas Dinner Party: Our annual Christmas Dinner was a huge success and enjoyed by all in attendance. Again we had an auction with the proceeds going to Community Care. We were able to give them a donation of $321 last December.
North Ridgeville Branch Library: Karen Sigsworth reported that they are currently having Sunday afternoon free programs each week for all ages through March 25 sponsored by the Friends of the Library. On March 25 at 3 p.m. there will be a program called “Rembrandt In America.” This is in conjunction with the current Cleveland Museum of Art’s exhibition. A staff member will present the program. Preregistration by calling the library is required.
Thank you to Betty Lou Palmer for furnishing the delicious refreshments this evening. Everyone enjoyed them and the conversation.
