Monday, September 19 – MEMBERSHIP MEETING at the North Ridgeville Library at 7 p.m.
Program: Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio ArtWorks
MEMBERSHIP MEETING – July 18, 2011
Attendance: Nancy Bowman, Betty Day, Nancy Gavin, Lonnie Hart, Mark Madere, Ilona Manista, Betty Lou Palmer, Pat Pitts, Karen Sigsworth, Lynn Telenko, Lorrie Ternes and Vee Valega. Guest: Nathan Hart and Janet Day Lawson
Betty Palmer, president, brought the meeting to order. She welcomed our guest, Janet Day Lawson.
American Red Cross: Janet Day Lawson is the current chairman of the Lorain County Red Cross. She wants to educate us about the Red Cross. Their main services are: all types of emergencies, blood services, disaster relief, safety training and Armed Services Communications. There are three paid persons in the Lorain County Red Cross and 200 volunteers doing the work in this area. Janet is the daughter of one of our members, Betty Day. We learned a lot about the American Red Cross. Lynn Telenko made a motion that NR Arts Council makes a donation of $50 to the American Red Cross. Ilona Manista seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Artistic Endeavor Scholarship: The winner of this year’s $1,000 scholarship is Nathan Hart. He showed us some of his artwork and described how he creates it. He plans to attend the Cleveland Institute of Art. Then he would like to enlist in the Marine Corp. Nathan was not aware that he won our scholarship until he graduated. That is the reason he was not at the Senior Breakfast to accept the award. We will determine who was supposed to tell our recipient.
Treasurer’s Report: Betty Day reported for the time period of June 20 thru July 17 funds received were $500.16. Expenses were $85.49. The total bank balance is $4,727.02.
Arts and Crafts Fair at North Ridgeville Corn Fest: Amanda Shelnutt was unable to attend this meeting. Karen Sigsworth reported that the coloring pages and accompanying entry forms for our 3rd Annual Coloring Contest are in the library for children to pick up. Several have already been completed and returned to the library. Children ages 3 through 12 can participate. Their artwork will be displayed in the Senior Center during the Arts and Crafts fair. There will be a meeting in the library on August 8 at 1 p.m. for those members who would like to help select the winners of the contest. Amanda has prizes for the contest from: True North Cultural Arts, Early childhood PTA, Bay Arts in Bay Village, Paint Your Own Pottery in North Olmsted and Cosco, who donated big doodle books.
We currently have received 23 contracts for our Arts and Crafts Fair which will be held August 12, 13 and 14. Donations of prizes for the raffle are needed. Tickets have been mailed to members and friends and they will be available for six for $5 or $1 each at the fair. Some people will be making up baskets, certificates have been donated, and more prizes would be great. You can select which prize or prizes you want to win. We will have our annual bake sale on Saturday. Donations of baked goods would be appreciated. They can be delivered to the Senior Center on Friday after 2 p.m. or Saturday after 10:30 a.m. The Corn Festival will open from 6 to 11 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. till 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon till close at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Anyone interested in spending some time working, can call Betty Palmer at 327-9751 or Nancy Gavin at 353-9395. This is our largest fundraiser so we can use lots of help.
September 19, 2011 Membership Meeting: Our speaker will be from Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio ArtWorks. Young Audiences’ mission and goal is to help make the arts an essential part of young people’s education. They advance the artistic and educational development of children and youth by bringing them together with professional artists to learn, create and participate in the arts. Come and bring a friend.
Fundraising: Betty Palmer reported that we purchased 50 Wendy’s cards at a cost of 25 cents and we will sell them for $1 each. The card entitles bearer to One Free Jr. Frosty Dairy Dessert with any purchase on each visit to Wendy’s. It is valid at participating Wendy’s Restaurants in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. They are good through July 31, 2012. Members bought the 50 tickets at the meeting. We decided to purchase more to sell at the Arts and Crafts Fair at the Corn Festival.
